James William Shear, 80 of Lewistown, Missouri passed away Friday, October 6, 2023 at the County Aire Retirement Center at Lewistown.

James was born on January 20, 1943 at Quincy, Illinois, the oldest of eight children of Charles William and Mary Elizabeth (Miller) Shear.

As James was growing up, he did many jobs on the rural family farm and for the neighbors. Then he worked as big rig truck driver for about five years. He drove throughout the lower forty-eight states as well as Canada. However, James was severely injured after he came home on one of his days off from driving and worked on a family vehicle. As a result, James had to give up driving a big rig.

After the accident, he needed more advanced health care services than his family could provide. So, he then lived in places that could provide him with those services for the remainder of his lifetime. Two of these places included the La Belle Manor Nursing Home in La Belle, Missouri where he lived about ten years of his life and was affectionately known as "JJ". He also lived at the Country Aire Retirement Center in Lewistown, Missouri for about the last six years before he went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

He is survived by a brother, Gary (Vivian) Shear of Quincy, Il.; three sisters, Brenda De Bow of Cedar Rapids, Ia., Diana Shear of Lewistown, Mo. and Donna Boling of Durham, Mo.; and several nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Linda Shear and Loretta Barrett and a brother Teddy Shear.

Graveside funeral services and burial will be held Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at 1:00 PM at the Dover Cemetery-Selves Addition in rural La Grange, Missouri with Rev. Greg Mitchell officiating.
