Albert Bernard Barker was born in 1863 in Rome, Georgia as the son of Dr. Rufus Barker and Sophia Craven Barker.

He married on June 7, 1886 in Rome, Georgia. Through his marriage, he became an active practicing Catholic. His wife was an active worker in the Catholic Church and his mother-in-law, Mary Seery Kane, is the founder of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rome, Georgia.
