George P. Herrington passed away on June 29, 2019 in Rockledge, FL, where he has resided with his wife, Sheila Herrington, for the past 28 years. George was born on July 31, 1934 in Anderson County to Martin and Delma "Bo" Herrington. He attended Montalba School and graduated from Palestine High School. He also attended Henderson County Junior College and the University of Houston.
He enjoyed a long career in the Houston area working for several major oil companies, including Exxon and British Petroleum, specializing in mapping and cartography. He and Sheila moved to Florida in 1991, where he retired in 1998. George was known for his kindness, outgoing personality and friendly disposition, making friends everywhere he went. He and Sheila shared a love for travel, especially cruising in tropical locations. Although he enjoyed Florida, he never lost his love for his home state of Texas.
George leaves behind his wife, Sheila; daughter, Valerie Sammon and her husband Quentin; sons, Brent Herrington and his wife Tana and David Herrington and his wife Elizabeth; stepdaughter, Shalys Petty and her husband John; sister, Peggy Shannon; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
