Fred met his future wife, Mary in New York and came to Ohio 1851 or 52. Fred purchased the farm site un-seen from the Anderson family of Bedford, Mass. Fred added to the original tract throughout the years with last purchase being made in 1882.
The old deeds show that the Wagner spelling was Wagoner. From the 1860 census records show that Fred came from a small community of Wittenberg, Germany, located northwest of Berlin. The same records show the Schmidts were from the Mecklenburg District of Germany which is also northwest of Berlin.
The first home used was a small building located at the corner of side lawn near gas pump and the barn. The existing house was built between 1865 and 1869 and Fred II was the first child born in this home. The last child born in the house was Frances Roslovic--great granddaughter of Fred I. The Wagner home was the first in the area with indoor plumbing and Fred II and his son Frank built a power plant that provided the farm with electricity and again another first among the local families.
The Wagner Farm has stayed within the family for over 150 years. It passed from Fred I to Mary his wife, to their son Fred II to his wife Emma, to their son Frank who sold it to his daughter Frances. At the present, Frank's daughter Annie resides on the farm.
