Alberta M. (Morris) McAfee of West Chester

Alberta M. (Morris) McAfee, 78, widow of Allen C. McAfee Jr., of West Chester, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007, at the Neighborhood Hospice Center in West Chester.

Born in Duncannon, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Violet (Hudelson) Morris. She had spent four years at the Simpson Meadows Assisted Living Center in Downingtown.

Alberta was a 1947 valedictorian graduate of Duncannon High School and a 1951 graduate of Kutztown University, where she graduated with high honors in art education. She later received her master's degree in library science from Drexel University, and had completed the course work for her doctorate in museum education at Penn State University in State College.

Mrs. McAfee served as the instructional materials curriculum librarian at West Chester University for 20 years.

She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, West Chester, where she helped in the church library and archives. She was also a member of the Chester County Art Association, Chester County Historical Society and Habitat for Humanity, in addition to being a member of Phi Delta Kappa and Delta Kappa Gamma Honor Societies. She was a member of the Soroptimist Club of West Chester and truly loved to travel, read, garden and was an amateur archaeologist and historian with Earthwatch.

Surviving is a son, Charles Buster McAfee, husband of Julia of West Lawn; and three daughters, Ann M., wife of William Bedrick of East Nantmeal, Barbara McAfee Johnson of Coatesville and Carol L., wife of David Alerich of West Chester. Also surviving is a sister, Barbara Null of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and four grandchildren, Cennae, Katie, Justin and Nick.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Calvary Lutheran Church, 730 S. New St., West Chester, with the Rev. William Seamon-McGowan officiating.

Burial will be in Nantmeal U.M.C. Cemetery.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Calvary Lutheran Church, 730 S. New St., West Chester, PA 19382.
Arrangements are being handled by Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 711 N. Franklin St., Pottstown.
