Lewis "Whimp" Gene Gilbert, 92, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2023 at his home near Hardesty, OK.

The son of Emma Lee (Neill) and George Scott Gilbert, Lewis was born April 1, 1931 at the Gilbert Ranch near Hardesty, OK. He graduated from Adams Schools in 1949 and was a lifelong rancher.

Lewis was united in marriage to Clarice (Pierson) on November 21, 1951, in Clayton, New Mexico. He currently attended Hardesty Community Church. He was a lifetime member of Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association and attended Hardesty Senior Citizens. In his younger years, he participated in trick roping, calf roping, team tying, and steer tripping. He competed in many team roping events until his late 80's, and continued riding and assisting with calf branding into his 90's. Lewis also enjoyed senior citizen's dances and playing pool with his special dance partner, Sarah Fields.

Survivors include his two sons, Kenneth Gilbert and wife, Debra, of Grand Ridge, FL and Terry Gilbert and wife, Becky, of Hardesty, OK; five grandchildren: Kyle Gilbert and wife, Traci of Grand Ridge, FL; Sandra Gilbert Walls of Spencer, WV; Melyssa Gilbert van den Bosch and husband, Flip of Everett, WA; Krysta Gilbert of Overland Park, KS; and Caitlyn Gilbert of Centerton, AR; and three great-grandsons, Corbin Gilbert and Miles and Owen van den Bosch.

His wife, Clarice; parents; and brothers, Frank and Carl Gilbert preceded him in death.
