Allie Albertson, 103, of Salem, and a former La Grande resident, died July 7, 2001, at a Salem care center.

Her graveside funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Island City Cemetery. The Rev. Mark Schlessman of the La Grande First Christian Church will officiate.

Mrs. Albertson was born Feb. 19, 1898, at Boreing, KY. She was one of nine children born to John D. "JD" and Marian (Hammack) Broughton Sr. The family moved to Wallowa County, and she was educated in Enterprise. After high school she attended Western Oregon University at Monmouth and Eastern Oregon University at La Grande, and she received her teaching certification. She taught in Wallowa, Umatilla, Union and Baker counties.

She and her husband, Hobart Albertson, remodeled and built several properties in the area. He died in the early 1950s. In 1968, she moved to Capital Manor Retirement Center in Salem.

Mrs. Albertson is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Retha Bowman, Reba Clark, John Braughton III, and George Broughton; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her siblings: Mary B. Kail, Myra Richmond, Fanny Muir, Nannie Diehl, Mattie Hoatson, Dora Cooper, John D. Braughton II, and George Braughton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the La Grande First Christian Church in care of Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 Seventh St., La Grande, Ore., 97850.
