ELLSWORTH – Alma Beatrice King, born April 10, 1913, in Monroe, daughter of William and Ada (Thompson) Plummer. Alma passed away April 7, 2004, three days before her ninety-first birthday after a long battle with cancer. Alma attended school in Monroe. Alma married Frank Young, and moved to Belfast where they lived for several years. Frank and Alma had one child, their daughter, Virginia. In 1941, Frank Young died and Alma later married George Condon. She spent several years cooking for the Condon Mill crews in the Maine woods before moving to Ellsworth where she spent many years boarding foster children. She really loved the children and had many happy memories of caring for them. Later, Alma married Gideon King and moved to Newfoundland. She lived there until he died and then Alma moved back to Ellsworth.
