Dr. Geneva Irene Hammond Dillard, age 89, went to be with the Lord Saturday, September 16, 2023
She was an educator for the Bristol VA School System. She served as a Principal but teaching the children was her true passion. She received her Doctorate from ETSU in Education.
Geneva was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was a member of Fellowship Chapel but she loved her visits at Valley Hills Baptist with her grandson, Rev. Joshua Wiley.
She was a member of Bristol Historical Association, Bristol Speech and Hearing, United Commercial Travelers (UCT), Virginia Retired Teachers Association, Raceway Ministries and many more.
Along with her parents, Kelly Roy and Bonnie Estelle Talbert Hammond she was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Dillard; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Laverne Wiley and husband, Mirdeath "Mack"; sons, Keith Dillard, Marc Dillard; great-grandson, Colton Taylor; sisters, Francis Scates, Katherine Bourne, Patsy Kegley.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Kami Wiley and her sons, Zay, Lucas and wife, Jenna, Nick; grandson, Joshua Wiley and wife, Felecia and their sons, Gabriel and Ezekiel; brother, John "Mickey" Hammond and wife, Emma; sister, Gloria Lovegrove and husband, Larry; several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a huge thank you to Dr. Roller (State of Franklin Healthcare), Smokey Mountain Home/Health Hospice and care giver Regina Voorhees for taking such good care of our grandmom.
The funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 pm, Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at Fellowship Chapel with Rev. Scott Price and Rev. Joshua Wiley officiating. Entombment will be 1:00 pm, Wednesday, September 20, 2023 in Glenwood Cemetery Mausoleum. For those wishing to go in procession to the cemetery please meet at Akard Funeral Home at 12:15 pm. The family will receive friends 5:00 – 6:45 pm prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Michael Bourne, Josh Lundsford, Chris Newman, Robert Smith, Nick Taylor, Gabriel Wiley. Honorary Pallbearer will be John "Mickey" Hammond.
