Daughter of Myron Eliphus Lance and Caroline Mayhew Lance

Married Bert Darius Shirts, 20 Jul 1919, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah

History. Ilda was born Dec. 5th, 1903 in Giles, Utah, Wayne Co., Giles was a small town between Hanksville & Caineville, Utah. Giles is non-existent today. Her father owned cattle. They lived on the ranch in the summer, and they had a large size one-room log cabin. She can remember that their parents's bed was in one corner of the cabin, and she made beds on the floor at night for the children. Her mother Caroline was a very good seamstress, always very neat and clean. She kept her hair in a bun in the back & curled the front every morning with curling irons as well as the girls' hair. Her father Myron played the violin for a lot of dances in all the small towns in the area and used to practice the violin many nights while they tried to sleep. Ilda loved to dance.

She met Bert Shirts at a Halloween dance in Antelope, Utah, and married on July 20, 1919, in Salt Lake City, Utah. They lived in Duchesne for a while and later moved to Hailey, Idaho. Ilda & Bert had many good times together, they traveled to many places and enjoyed being with each other. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 20, 1969, in their home with all their family & many friends, this also was the date of the first landing on the moon by men from the United States.

She loved her family, grandchildren & great-grandchildren. She was a good cook, sewed & made all kinds of clothes. She celebrated her 80th birthday party in the summer of July 1983 in her home with all of her sisters, brothers, family, grandchildren & great-grandchildren, and friends.

She passed away in Hailey, Idaho on July 13, 1988. Her favorite thing to say: "To me, her daughter (Vera Ormae Shirts Smith) this beatitude best tells about my mother. "Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God".
