Mrs. Melissa Parker McKinney, age 65, of Marion, passed away with her two children by her side on Friday, September 15, 2023.
Melissa is a native of McDowell County and was born on August 1, 1958 to the late Alvin Parker and Mary Kent Parker.
She was a member of Solid Rock Freewill Baptist Church and retired from McDowell Hospital as a Phlebotomist.
Melissa taught herself to play the organ and piano. She was very talented and played in church for many years. Melissa was a carefree and spirited person, who loved people. Her children and especially her grandchildren were very dear to her.
In addition to her parents, Melissa is preceded in death by her brothers, Jerry, Terry, and Hal Silver, and sister Loretta Hall.
Surviving is her husband, Jimmy McKinney; two children, Terry Evans and wife Stephanie and Tabitha Evans of Marion; two stepsons, Joey McKinney and wife Jeannie, and Jimmy Dean McKinney and wife Lisa of Marion; three grandchildren, Devin, Lauryn, and Sydney; four step-grandchildren, Cassie, Ethan, Casey, and Wayne.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Melissa will be held Monday, September 18, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at Westmoreland Funeral home in Marion with her son Terry Evans and Pastor JB Cope officiating.
