Part of his obit.
" Hugh was gifted with an amazing ability to retain information. He knew every highway throughout the country not only from studying the road atlas but by personally traveling most of them. He stopped by to introduce himself to countless distant relatives across the nation. He could 'talk your ear off'. Hugh was a wealth of knowledge gained not by the educational system but by his intrigue to read and learn about this world. This might possibly be what he will be most remembered for, and found lacking, in his absence.

Hugh was a patriotic and proud man who was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Sons of the Confederacy, the American Legion, Woodmen of the World, and Freemasonry. He is a legacy of New Hope Baptist Church where he will be laid to rest alongside Betty, his parents and many family members. He spoke of the Lord often and looked forward to the life to come. Though Hugh lived to the advanced age of nearly 92, his death was unexpected and he will be missed by all who knew him. "

I want to give Hugh and his wife Betty credit for helping to connect our family line together. If it were not for them a lot of us would not be any further back than what we could find in the 1850 Al. census. In 1996 I had just found out that Stephen Grimes was my 3rd Greatgrandfather, even the search of Duplin Co.,Nc. could not give me the info needed to connect with James Grimes, Hugh Grimes and than to Walter Grimes. Thank you Hugh and Betty Grimes. (CGT)
