Note: There is much confusion and interwining of documents on Nicholas Massey in North Carolina and a Nicholas Massey in Maryland.
There is no documentation that he is the same Nicholas Massey who served as a Captain in the Maryland Sea Duty Militia although some online family trees show that information.
There is no documentation to show that he is the same Nicholas Massey who served in the War of 1812 in Capt McClure's Company of the North Carolina Militia although some online family trees show this information. Since he was born in 1735, he would have been age 77-80 during 1812-1815 when the War of 1812 was fought so his participation is very unlikely. Therefore I have not designated him as a veteran. I will not accept edits to add that designation without documentation to prove it.
The 1790 Federal Census shows a Nicholas Massey listed in Iredell County, North Carolina. The 1810 Federal Census shows a Nicholas Massey located in St George's Maryland. It is very unlikely that he moved to North Carolina before 1790 and then moved back to Maryland by 1810. It is most likely that he moved to North Carolina before 1790 and lived there the rest of his life and died there.
