Mary C V Gossin Godette, known as Mazie, was the daughter of Andrew Gossin and Emma Vashon. She was born in St Louis, Missouri on March 30, 1899.

Mazie was a Sumner High School graduate in 1917. She attended the Illinois University at Champaign, and was a graduate of the Columbia Physical Training School in Chicago. She taught physical culture for three years at Lincoln High School in Kansas City.

On September 8, 1924, Mazie married James Oliver Godette of Oberlin, Ohio. She pre-deceased her husband when she passed away January 10, 1926, in Oberlin, Ohio at the age of 26. She died after giving birth to a daughter, Mary V. Both Mazie and her daughter died. Her husband accompanied her remains to St Louis for a funeral at her parent's home and to be buried. In addition to her parents, she was survived by a sister, Mrs Susie Stewart of Washington, DC, a brother, Bernard Gossin of Chicago, a brother, Jack Gossin, and two uncles, George and Frank Vashon of St Louis.
