Mrs. Velester Matthews, 71 of 28 Vine Street, Pittsburgh, a former resident of Midland, died Sunday afternoon at Mercy Hospital, in Pittsburgh, after a four year illness.

She was born in Mississippi Oct. 5, 1902 and had resided in Pittsburgh for 47 years coming from Midland.

Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Ethel Gilliam of Philadelphia, Mrs. Theola Jenkins of Canton and Mrs. Lillian Winstead of Pittsburgh and a nephew, Leonard Ware of Midland, whom she helped rear.

Services will be held Wednesday at the Midland Church of the living God by the Rev. Wilson Jemison pastor and the Rev. James Curry of Midland, who is the pastor of the Weirton Baptist Church.

Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Industry.
