Kari was born Sept. 30, 1976, to Dale and Barb Solem in Cloquet, Minn.
Kari graduated from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn., with a BS degree in nursing, and started her career as an RN in Minnesota. She married Tom Brewer in Valentine, Neb., on July 24, 2004. They started married life on Tom's grandmother's ranch at Norris, S.D., where Kari was the RN for the Todd Co. School District in Mission, S.D. Her photography went from a hobby to a business at this time. They moved to a ranch south of Miles City in 2006. Kari worked in town at Holy Rosary Healthcare in Cardiac Rehab and Outpatient Chemotherapy. She took work seriously and was a great advocate for patient care. She was diagnosed with AML Leukemia, Aug. 8, 2008, and received a stem cell transplant, Dec. 12, 2008. She accepted Christ as her savior and was baptized at 18 years of age. Her faith in God allowed her to go to battle and fight hard. She always had a smile, even on her worst days. She touched the lives of many people, including her doctors and nurses.
She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Ingrid Smith; her, grandfather, Elwood Solem and grandmother, Margaret Ann Solem.
She is survived by her husband, Tom; her father, Dale Solem, Duluth; her mother, Barb Solem, Culver, Minn.; aunt, Connie (Mike) Labuda; cousin, Rachel (Brent) Micken and family; grandfather, Leo Smith; a brother, Steve; and sisters Stacy and Robin; and 14 nieces and nephews.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, in the West Side Baptist Church, corner of 34th Street West and Monad. Interment will follow at Terrace Gardens Cemetery. Viewing will be prior to services in the church on Friday.
