Margaret Anna (Nan) Bredin
October 30, 1925 - Renfrew, Ontario - September 7, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta
Nan Bredin (nee MacQueen) died on Thursday, September 7 at the age of 97. She is survived by her son James (Anne) of Toronto, her daughter Maryann of Calgary and Nan's beloved cat Winston. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Edward MacPherson (Ed) Bredin and her sister Lois Alger, both of Calgary.
Nan grew up in Tisdale, Saskatchewan and moved to Edmonton with her family during the Second World War. She attended the University of Alberta and graduated as a dietician before undertaking post-graduate studies at the University of Washington in Seattle. She was involved in the field of dietetics as both a practitioner and an instructor for several years afterward. In the early 1950s, she moved to Calgary with her parents and was teaching at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) when she met and married her husband, Ed Bredin.
After starting a family, she became a full-time homemaker and devoted a great deal of her time to volunteer endeavours, most notably with the Women's Canadian Club where she rose to the position of president of the Calgary chapter and vice president of the Prairie Region. Unquestionably, her greatest passion was travel. Together with her husband and various friends she travelled extensively throughout every continent except Antarctica.
The family extends sincere thanks to Nan's excellent Beyond Neighbours caregivers and everyone at the Manor Village of Garrison Woods, especially the Wellness staff who always treated her with the utmost kindness, love and dignity. She lived at the Manor for nearly 10 years and thought of you all as family.
