M. Maxene Smith, 85, of North Baltimore, died at 10: 15 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at Briar Hill Health Campus, North Baltimore. She was born on June 3, 1922 in Carey to the late George and Myrtle (Harris) Perkins. She married Forest "Bud" Smith on September 5, 1942 and he preceded her in death in 1982. Maxene was a licensed beautician and a homemaker; she was also a co-owner of Smith's Plumbing and Heating in the 1950's and 1960's. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd United Methodist, North Baltimore, where she participated in the United Methodist Women. She was a former member of the Business and Professional Women. She was a former teacher's aide for the North Baltimore school system, and had volunteered at Blakely Nursing Home and with Meals on Wheels. She is survived by a son, Robert (Sue) Smith of North Baltimore; daughters: Janet (Harry) Wilcox of Perrysburg and Sandy (Gherin) Johnston of Toledo; a sister-in-law, Delcie (Cloyce) Rader of Carey; 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Also preceding her in death was a grandchild. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 12, 2008 at the Church of the Good Shepherd United Methodist, North Baltimore, with Reverends Susan Kronbach and Paul Eichar officiating. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Friday at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, North Baltimore. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Good Shepherd United Methodist, North Baltimore, in her memory.
