Mrs. Janice Patricia Long, 71, died Friday night (March 31, 2023) at UF Health - Shands in Gainesville, FL after an extended illness.
She was born May 4, 1951 in Waycross to the late Bobby D. Lucas and Myrtice Altman Lucas. Janice was raised and lived most of her life in Brantley County. She graduated from Waycross College, Okefenokee Technical College and Valdosta State University with degrees in psychology, sociology and cosmetology. In her early years, she was employed by J.C. Penny's and King Edward Cigar Factory. Once married, she became a devoted and loving homemaker to her husband and children. Janice was a former member of New Hope Advent Church where she served as Camp Georgia camp director, a Junior Action teacher and fall festival event coordinator. As an organ donor recipient, Janice volunteered as an organ donor speaker for LifeLink. Since COVID, Janice wasn't able to attend public church services, so she virtually attended Remnant Church live streams faithfully and supported their ministries.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Johnny Lucas from Texas.
Survivors include her husband of 34 years, Charles H. Long, Jr. of Waycross; three daughters, Dawn Estrada of Blackshear, Cyndi Wellington (Kevin) of Hoboken, and Becky Fussell of Waycross; two sons, Chuck Long and Todd Long both of Savannah; grandchildren, Amber and Brittney Estrada (deceased father, Mike Estrada), Jarred, Dustin and Blythe Wellington, Preston and Crystal Beverley, Tina Rinker, Jennifer Ragusa (David), Sarah Hughes (Justin), Michelle Long and Gabbie Long; and great grandchildren, Eva Raymond, Alden Beverley, Gracie West, Tyler West, Noah Hughes and Mason Long.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday (April 6, 2023) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Thomas Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Music Funeral Home.
