* Fannie Elizabeth Ballard was born c.1847, and was married to Marcus C Helton. They had at least 4 children, Martha Lucinthia Helton-Mauney, William Franklin Helton, Alonzo Helton and George Bruce Helton.

Note:
Family history indicates the John Franklin was born approximately four months after John Ballard & Catey Miars were married. So John Ballard adopted John Franklin, thus he does not appear in the Bastardy Bonds. The marriage would have been a practical arrangement for both parties since John Ballard needed someone to care for his two children from a previous marriage.
One researcher, Mrs Fanny Hilton Reel, reports that John Franklin Ballard is adopted. His birth father (Hawkins) returned to England and he was adopted by his step-father. She further stated that after John Franklin was grown, his biological father wrote him from England, asking him to come there because he had no sons. John Franklin was very angry and declined.
