Cabrini College's Former President and President Emerita, Sister Mary Louise Sullivan, MSC, ('63) PhD, passed away at Saint Cabrini Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry, NY, after a long illness. She was a 1963 graduate of Cabrini College and received an MA from Villanova, After teaching in middle school, Sister became the Associate Dean, then Academic Dean, then later, the President, at Cabrini College beginning in 1970.
Under her leadership, student activities and athletic programs expanded and construction began for seven new student residences," as well as, Cabrini's first student-activity building, the Widener Center. She also fostered new programs and departments for English and Communication, Psychology, Social Science, and its first master's degree program, in education. Then, after her ten years as President, she obtained a PhD from Bryn Mawr with a doctoral dissertation that later became a definitive and inspiring biography of the saint who founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart. It was published in 1992, under the title, "Mother Cabrini – Italian Immigrant of the Century." Her research and writings led to work in the field of pastoring immigrants, with the USCCB, and with the Scalabrini Pastoral Institute at the Center for Migration Studies.
