A funeral service will be held Saturday for Guyla R. Simpson Campbell, 935 Hasenflu Drive, Hermitage. She passed away of natural causes at 12:34 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2008, in the intensive care unit of UPMC Horizon, Farrell. She was 44.


Mrs. Campbell was born March 15, 1964, in Sharon, a daughter of Carlos and Jeanette Batchelder Simpson.

A lifelong area resident, she completed her junior year at Sharon High School. During the summer before her senior year, Guyla was involved in a very serious automobile accident that left her paralyzed. Throughout the past 27 years, Guyla learned to adapt and overcome her physical limitations.

Guyla was a wonderful mother who adored her son and was involved in all of his activities.

She was a gifted artist who loved to paint, sketch and draw. Other interests of Guyla's included crocheting and spending time on the computer.

Surviving are: her husband, Dean M. Campbell, whom she married Sept. 25, 1993; and her son, James D. Campbell, a seventh-grade student at Hermitage schools, both at home; her mother, Jeanette Simpson, Hermitage; six sisters, Linda Merchant and her husband William; and Vicky Davison, all Hermitage; Robin Drummond and her husband Terry, Mebane, N.C.; Bonnie Snyder and her husband Dave, Sharon; Carol Strawcutter and her husband William, Masury; and Cindy Byers and her husband Larry, Sharon; two brothers, Joe Simpson and his wife Theresa, Brookfield; and Billy Simpson and his companion Leslie Beers, both Masury; and several nieces and nephews.

She also leaves her many caregivers to whom she was very appreciative. They are Marcie Westover, Karen Wilcox, Valerie Irby, Vicky Sweigard, Amy Hanahan, Maree Beth Merchant and Tracy Norris.

Guyla was preceded in death by her father; a sister, Beth Fitzgerald; and a niece, Brandee Simpson.
