Obituary of Mrs. George Shephard
One of the Pioneers of Crystal, North Dakota

Mary Louise Givens was born November 1, 1854, at Rosetta, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada, and passed away December 9, 1924, at Olathe, Kansas. She spent her childhood days at home with her parents and during this time became a member of the Methodist church and was an ardent worker at all times. She came to North Dakota in June 1883.

She was married to George Shephard July 4, 1884. To this union was born seven children. George Wesley died in infancy and Mary Louise died at the age of three years and ten months. Those surviving are the husband and five children, Herbert; Camburn; Mrs. George (Ettie Mae) Baker of Crystal, North Dakota; and Mrs. Jay (Emmatean Shephard) Robinson, and Mrs. Floyd (Ida Ella) Beaver, of Olathe, Kansas. She also leaves three sisters and one brother in Canada, and one brother in California. She had sixteen grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Shephard arrived from Crystal, North Dakota, on Thanksgiving morning and on the following Monday, Mrs. Shephard was taken ill with Flu which developed into double pneumonia. She was sick just a week. The remains were laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery at Monticello, Kansas.

Mr. and Mrs. George Baker, Herbert and Camburn Shephard left immediately to be present at the funeral.
