Obituary

Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Amee Elaine Heater Merritt, age, passed away on August 31, 2023. Elaine was born on January 21, 1939 in Delta, Colorado, a daughter of Nelson Jacob and Verda Mildred Kent Heater. She was reared and educated in Delta, Colorado until she was 12. Her family moved to Yakima, Washington where she graduated from West Valley High School in 1957. She also attended Ricks College where she met her sweetheart Elwin Rich Merritt. They were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on July 23, 1959.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many capacities, including Relief Society presidencies. Elaine served 30 years in the Scouting program, where she received the Award of Merit, Silver Wolf and her Silver Beaver. Her sons all received their Eagle Scout Awards. Elaine and her husband Elwin served a mission in Columbus, Georgia, served in the Bishop's Storehouse in Brigham City, and served in the Provo Mission on the church farm in Elberta, UT. They were also ordinances workers in the Ogden Temple from 2006 to 2010. Elaine enjoyed cooking, gardening, tatting, loved working with flowers in her yard and being with family and friends.

Surviving are her husband, Elwin; 5 children; Charles (Audree) Merritt; Becky (Cal) Robinson; Kim (Sharon) Merritt; Amee Merritt; Daniel (Shelley) Merritt; daughter-in-law, Kathy (Glen) Nickerson; 19 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren; sister, Rebecca Rutz, four brothers, Grant Heater, Edwin Heater, Larry Heater and Donald Heater.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Lynn Merritt, two sisters, Lois Wilson and Alice Faye Heater.

Funeral services will be held at Brigham City West Stake Center, on Thursday, September 7 at 11:00am.
