A celebration of the life of Dr. Earl Estep, Jr., 91, of Athens, is scheduled for 5:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at the Athens Country Club, 500 Park Dr., Athens, Texas 75751, with a eulogy provided by Bro. Erick Graham at 6:00 p.m.

Dr. Estep passed away on February 10, 2023, in Tyler.

Earl Chester Estep, Jr. was born on November 9, 1931, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the son of Earl Chester Estep, Sr. and Margaritte (Doris) Estep. He graduated with his bachelor's degree from Oklahoma A&M, now Oklahoma State University, where he played college basketball, then went to dental school in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Estep was a renowned dentist in Athens, was the author of several books about dentistry, and traveled throughout the United States and abroad for numerous speaking engagements on the subject. He even received the accolade of being named the number-one dentist in the United States. In his retirement, Earl was co-owner of the Athens Tree Farm and raised braunvieh cattle. He was a longtime member of the Athens Country Club and loved playing golf, so much so that he built the Kings Creek Golf Course in Kemp. Earl also enjoyed gambling, playing cards, and shooting pool. His remarkable legacy as a son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend will live on forever in the lives of those he touched.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Enoch Estep, and his sister, Carol Stephens.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Pat Estep of Athens; his children, Kimberlee Kay Estep-Boswell and husband Allen of Athens, Kip Carlton Estep of Larue; his grandchildren, Justin Estep Boswell and wife Deanne, Mollee Bess Boswell Suarez and husband Mike, Brock Earl Estep, and Baylee Jean Estep; and his great-grandchildren, Ava Lily Boswell, Landen Wayne Boswell, John Allen Suarez, and Susie Bea Suarez.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
