Samuel Porter Lane, for a number of years a reported and widely known farmer of the Eskridge neighborhood, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Albert Reynard at San Gabriel, Calif. July 26. The remains were brought to Eskridge for burial here Sunday services being held at the M.E. church here, conducted by the Rev. C. F. Jenkins. Burial will be made in the Eskridge cemetery.
Samuel Porter Lane was born at Springfield, Ill., in which state he grew to manhood. He came to Jackson county Kansas, in the year 1878. The following year he was married to Miss Hannah Schroeder at Soldier City, Kans., and to the union were born six children, all whom survive.
They are, Mrs. Albert Reynard of San Gabriel, Calif., Mrs. John (Minnie)Pryor, Walter Lee Lane and Clarence Lane of Eskridge, John Lane of Hollister, Calif. and William C. Lane of Harveyville.
Mr. Lane came to Wabaunsee county in the year 1889 and lived in the Eskridge neighborhood until 1918 at which time he moved to California to live with Dr. and Mrs. Reynard. He left six children, twenty-eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; also three brothers, two sisters and other relatives and friends. His wife preceded him to the beyond on February 13, 1921.
