Obituary for Lily Irene Dawkins
Our beautiful mom, Lily 'Irene' (Cannon) Dawkins, has passed away this 30th of August, 2023 at the age of 88. She suffered the intolerable disease of dementia. A native Atlantan, Irene lived and went to school in Atlanta. She was from a large family - 11 children. She grew up loving to play softball with her brother Clarence and playing in the church softball league. She loved working at a dress shop. She was married to Lloyd Henry Dawkins (now deceased).

Our mom was always the center of attention when she walked into a room. She loved fashion, bowling, going to the beach, playing games with her siblings on Friday nights and being with her family. Mom loved the holidays and making them extra special for our family - family first. Another love of hers was going on our extended family camping trips. It always brought great laughter and many memories. Mom worked with the State for several years and was instrumental in helping our father with his construction business. She always loved the church and church hymns, especially "Amazing Grace." Even with dementia she could sing every verse of "How Great Thou Art" and "I Come to the Garden Alone."

Irene is preceded in death by her parents (Orville & Daisy Cannon, her husband Lloyd H. Dawkins, and her son, Michael Dawkins). Irene is survived by her children, Kenneth Dawkins, Deborah Dawkins Sellers (son-in-law but son really - Mike Sellers) and Elizabeth Dawkins Leedle (son-in-law Ben Leedle). She is also survived by four of her 11 siblings: Mildred Cannon Diggs, Minnie Cannon Vermillion, Ruth Cannon Hinton, and Janice Cannon Burton. Irene also has several grandchildren: Jennifer Dawkins Williams (Stewart), Bryan Sellers (Christa), Erika Sellers Yermack (Charles), Kris Dawkins (Amanda), Jason Dawkins (Jenifer), Lily Parrish Kruger (Justin), Henry Parrish, Jordan Leedle (Kelby) and Hannah Leedle (Anish). Her surviving great grandchildren: Kody Dawkins, Drew Williams, McKinsey Williams, Graydon Sellers, Durham Williams, Jaelyn Sellers, Wade Dawkins, Katie Beth Dawkins, Sloan Sellers, Charlotte Yermack and Luke Leedle; her great-great granddaughter Chole Brown. Irene was loved by numerous nieces and nephews.

Irene will be greatly missed.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, September 3, 2023, at 3pm at Scot Ward Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors from 1pm to 3pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice in Irene's name would be greatly appreciated. Condolences may be submitted on-line at www.scotward.com.
