Born to John Wesley Phye and Clara Marie Altman in 1920, Phye married Edith Irene Galusha and had 3 children Clara, Nancy and Laura. He departed his family in 1952 in the company of Frances Blanche (Hayes) Groves and her two daughters. Moved to Philipsboro, Missouri, Kansas City, Mo and finally to Palm Springs, California, where he and Frances were employed as domestic help for a wealthy family. Prior to moving to Palm Springs, Phye forced Frances to abandon her children Audrey and Ilene. Frances disappeared in the company of James Franklin Phye sometime between 1954 and 1955, never to be heard from again. Phye started using an alias, and re-appeared in Las Vegas, Nv. He took his own life, and left instruction that his remains were to be taken to Panguitch, Utah for burial there.
Prior to his death in 1996, he was living under the alias John Wilcox, according to Social Security records and a neighbor in Las Vegas.
