Lydia was the second of nine children born to Helena "Lena" nee Schafer and Fred William Endorf, Jr. She was born at Wilcox, where her father worked in partnership perhaps in the department store business. They moved to Campbell (Franklin County), Nebraska, where Lydia grew to adulthood. She attended, and graduated from, Valparaiso Lutheran University in Valparaiso, Indiana.

She first was married to Paul S. Butler, on 1 Jun 1938 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Campbell. Paul's mother was organist for the wedding music, and Lydia's sister, Maxene, provided violin selections. After their honeymoon, they settled in Wymore, Nebraska (Paul's home). They did not have children.

The following obituary appeared in "The Kearney Hub" of Kearney, Nebraska:

HASTINGS — Lydia E. Pavelka, 97, of Campbell died Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Campbell with the Rev. William Caughey officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery southwest of Campbell.

Campbell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She was born Sept. 15, 1907, in Wilcox to Fredrick and Helena (Schafer) Endorf.

In 1938 {June 1} she married Paul Butler. He died in 1947 (sic--19 Dec 1946).

In 1977 she married Leo Pavelka in Hastings. He died in 1991.

Survivors include her sisters, Gertrude Reicher of Eureka, Calif. and Maxine [sic-Maxene] Hermanson of San Diego, Calif.; stepson, Leo of Hastings; seven step grandchildren; and 12 step great-grandchildren.
