Tom's parents are William Barton and Emaline Griffith. His known siblings are John Quincy, Mary A, Malinda, Lucinda, Susan, Michael Joseph, Elijah Madison and Mariam Barton.

He married Cora Belle Powers, ca 1890, Fayette County, West Virginia. She died about 1932 and Tom came west to live near his sons and brother Elijah Madison. Their known children are Charles E, George Rueben, William E, Emma F, Edgar Hazel, Russie H and Thomas M Barton.

Thomas Jefferson Barton Passes at Enterprise Hospital

Thomas J. Barton of Promise, died at the Enterprise Hospital Saturday (Nov. 8, 1941) where he had been a patient for several weeks and funeral services were held at the Promise Grange Hall Monday conducted by Arvil Hurt, Christian Minister of Wallowa. Burial was in the Promise Cemetery.

Music was furnished by the Wallowa Christian ladies quartet composed of Mrs. Coley Wray, Mrs. Joe Rounsavell, Mrs. Spencer Trump and Mrs. Abbie Riggle.

Mr. Barton was a native of West Virginia but five years ago came to the Promise Community to be nearer his son and by his kindness had endeared himself to the people of that section.

Thomas Jefferson Barton was born in Franklin County, Virginia, Nov. 14, 1858, the son of Wm. E. and Emmoline Griffith Barton. He was married to Cora Belle Powers in 1891 and she passed away in 1932.
To this union were born seven children: Charles A. Barton of Fayetteville, W.Va., G. Ruben Barton of Promise, William Elbert Barton who died in 1904, Mrs. Florence Baxter of South Nuttall, W.Va., Edgar H. Barton of Union (Oregon), Mrs. Russie Treadway of Fayetteville, W.Va., and Thomas M. Barton of Huntington, W.Va.

He is also survived by two brothers and two sisters, John Barton of Pax, W.Va., E. M. (Elijah) Barton of Promise (Oregon), Mrs. Loucinda Bloxton of Hill Top, W.Va., and Mrs. Susan Humphrey of Pax, W.Va.
He is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren."
