Agnes Lankhaar Obituary

Agnes (Huizenga) Lankhaar arrived in her heavenly home on August 26, 2023, at the age of 99. She was born in Holland on June 9, 1924, and immigrated to the United States with her parents at the age of five, arriving in Bellflower, California. After the family moved to Everett, Washington during her senior year, Agnes graduated from Everett HS. After graduation, Agnes was the first woman to work in her department at the Robinson Mill in Everett, with more women coming on board as WWII continued. She met her future husband William (Bill) at a Haven of Rest concert in Everett, and they were married on April 12, 1944, in Lynden, WA.

Bill and Agnes settled into life on their dairy farm on the Slotemaker Rd. in Everson, where they raised six children. After she and Bill retired from farming life, she drove special needs children to school in Bellingham for the Meridian school district, delivering them safely and building lifelong friendships in the process. Bill and Agnes shared 63 years of love, farming challenges, family life, and God's enduring grace.

Agnes spent many hours serving at church and school, babysitting grandchildren, and traveling with Bill on fishing trips and other vacations around the U.S. But at heart, she was happiest at home, content with God's daily provision. The door to their home on Grover St. was always open to stop-ins for a cup of tea and lively conversation.

Agnes was characterized by her hard work, quick wit, independence, warm hospitality, dependence on the Lord, and a lifetime of fulfilling her responsibilities with energy, grace and gratitude. A member of Second Christian Reformed Church in Lynden since 1944, she was involved in many ministries at church and Lynden Christian Schools. She was deeply loved by her family, and we are thankful for the many years God granted us with her.

Agnes is survived by children Dorothy (Gene) Greenough, Walt (Linda) Lankhaar, Steve (Marilyn) Lankhaar, Doug (Kathy) Lankhaar, Marilyn (Don) Masters and Susan (Paul) DallaSanta, former daughter-in-law Norma Carnahan, 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and sister-in-law Marian Huizenga. She was preceded in death by husband Bill in 2007, parents Jacob and Dora Huizenga, sister Betty Hilverda and brothers Albert, Don and Gilbert Huizenga.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Christian Healthcare Center for their loving care during the last months of Mom's life.

Graveside service will be at 2pm, September 9 at Monumenta Cemetery with a 3pm memorial service following at Second Christian Reformed Church, 113 8th St. Lynden.
