MRS. BETTIE H. FRYE
Last Saturday evening, the sad news was conveyed to Tulia, that Mrs. Bettie H. Frye had passed to
her eternal reward in Heaven. The end came about 5 o'clock.
Mrs. Frye was (illegible) to accompany her sister, Miss Sue Huffman, to the train, for return to her
home, when the end came suddenly. Mrs. Frye had been in bad health for some time, but none dreamed
the end so near and indeed was a shock to friends and relatives.
Mr. Frye and son, J. C., were at distant points. However, Mr. James Frye got in communication with
them and they arrived Sunday morning.
Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Baptist church, led by her
pastor, Rev. Gordon Barrett. The business houses of town were closed, and the church was packed with
kind, loving friends. Besides a very bank of flowers the dear body rested in its last abiding house. These
flowers were indeed sweet and spoke fittingly of the lives that she had blessed. The deacons of the Baptist
church, upon request of Mr. Frye, acted as pall bearers, and as tenderly as one of their own did they handle
the casket.
The sweet songs by the choir and God's word read by the pastor, as well as the words of sympathy
and consolation, which he so tenderly spoke, were indeed as balsam to the torn and bleeding hearts of the
relatives and friends. He apoke of her life and how she had been to her pastor all that could be asked, and
pointed them to the Lamb of God, who now had her in His keeping, and who was ever ready and willing
to give them the real heart comfort.
In steady, solemn manner, the friends followed the remains to the Tulia cemetery, where tender hands
laid it in its last resting place, and Divine blessings were asked upon the sorrowing and bereaved friends
and relatives.
Mrs. Frye, nee Bettie Elisabeth Huffman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Huffman, was born in Plano,
Collin county, Texas, on January 26th, 1861. She died Saturday, August 31st, 1918, aged 57 years, 7
months and 5 days.
Her mother died when she was about 12 years of age, and her father died about five years ago.
On January 17, 1894, she was united in marriage with Mr. J. C. Frye. To this union was born two
children, J. C. Jr., and a daughter who died in infancy.
At the age of fourteen years, Mrs. Frye made a public profession of faith in Christ and united with the
Missionary Baptist church.
Besides her husband and son, she leaves a sister, Miss Sue Huffman, of Plano, a brother, Mr. C. H.
Huffman, of Lockney, a number of other relatives and a host of friends.
Truly has a good mother, friend and neighbor gone home to God. To those with whom she came in
contact she was ever smiling and a word of cheer and good will freely extended. To every lady whose
mother lived at a distance, she was v erily a mother and oft would put her arms about them and giving them
a kiss, would speak words that were of untold good in life's battle.
In the church life she was a most useful member, and had charge of the Home and Children.
Department of the Sunday School.
She was a most honored and respected member of the Eastern Star and the members, with broken
hearts, tendered their last fond farewells.
We do not know, we can not understand, but God will rreveal, why such a noble lady was taken. In
every walk of life, she fully filled the desires and wishes of her Savior. We cannot fill her place, but we can
profit by her blessed example.
The deepest sympathy is extended to those who sorrow. Look to God, the giver of every good and
gracious gift. He will give you comfort.
