The fifth of eight children and third daughter of William Field, Jr. (bef. 1728-1805) and Lydia Elswick (1743-c.1829) of Randolph County, North Carolina, Jane Field was actually born in Rowan Co., NC, the section that became Guilford in 1771 and Randolph in 1779. She married Jesse Stroud (c.1755-1812, son of Abraham Stroud and Lucretia Ogle). They went to Indiana around 1805. She appears in Harrison Co., Ind. in 1820, and in Greenville, Floyd Co. Indiana in 1840 and 1850. They had eight children: Catherine (c.1785/90), Joel (c.1794, went to Texas), Allen (c.1798, m. Arza Askin/Aston, went to Texas), Hiram (c.1800/1, m. Sarah Fox, remained in Indiana), Elizabeth (1802, m. Wilson Taylor, remained in Indiana), Jesse (1804), Nield (1808, m. Mary Lewis) and Field Stroud (1811, m. Elizabeth Blackwood).
