J.A. CARDWELL DEAD
J.A. Cardwell aged 80 years died at his home near Lytton on Monday at 6:30.
In his death Caldwell county loses one of its oldest & most highly esteemed citizens. He was a man of whom too much good cannot be said & the effects of his worthy deeds & noble example end not with his death. Energetic in all good works, his services were at the command of any cause he espoused. Sound in judgement, his counsel was sought by old & young. He was a Confederate soldier who served with honor to himself & the South. The remains were interred in the Lytton Cemetery Wed. at 11 o'clock. The funeral services being conducted by the pastor of the Methodist Church of which he was a consistent member. It was intended that the services be held in the church but it's (sic) capacity was sufficient to accommodate only a small part of the great number who assembled to pay him the last tribute of respect & they were held at the grave. The memory of his noble life is an inspiration to those who survive him. The bereaved ones have our sympathy.
