Austro-Hungarian writer, film and stage director and producer. Married to actress Elisabeth Bergner. In 1933 the couple, who were both Jewish, moved to Paris at the invitation of British film producer Alexander Korda, France from Germany. In 1940 they moved to Hollywood, where they found work. Czinner subsequently moved to New York to work on Broadway; in 1950 he and Bergner moved back to London. Czinner made some 24 films between 1919 and 1966, many opera-related.
