Capt. A. B. Briant died on the 25th March, 1865. He enlisted into the service of his country on the 21st Nov. 1861. He was a devoted member of the Baptist Church, and was the oldest of five brothers of which only three survive. He was a member of Co. B., Holcombe Legion. At Manassas he received a severe wound to his shoulder. At the fort works around Petersburg, Va., at about 7 o'clock a.m., he was pierced with a small fragment of a shell which passed through his head and caused instant death. Surviving are his wife, four little daughters, and his parents. Remains now sleep at Petersburg.
