Betty Jean was born on April 17, 1932 in Upper Sandusky, Ohio to George L. and Hilda J. (Courtad) Hetzel. She married Ralph Murray on June 18, 1950 in Upper Sandusky, and he passed away on June 28, 2017.
She is survived by her 4 children: Mark (Pat) Murray of Nevada, Marcia (John) Lawyer of Marengo, Melanie (Chuck) Hughes of Lemert, and Michele "Shelly" (Dale) Schreck of Hicksville. 7 grandchildren: Heather (Ben Layton) Thompson, Hilary (Joe) Ostrom, Drew (Tara) Lawyer, Melissa (Kyle) Renfro, Jennifer (Jeremy) King, Jaimee (Jeff) Slattery, and Ryan (Meagan) Schreck, along with 15 great grand-children, 3 step grandchildren, 8 step great grandchildren, and many step great great grandchildren.
Betty Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a great granddaughter Ashley Nicole Ostrom, and a sister Eleanor Zimmerman.
Betty Jean was a homemaker, and worked for Showe Housing as the office manager for several years with her husband Ralph.
She was a member of the Martin Luther Lutheran Church in rural Bucyrus, where she was a member of the Ever Faithful Circle of the Church.
Betty Jean enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, and going on motorcycle rides with her husband.
A funeral service for Betty Jean Murray will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, August 21, 2023, at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, and will be officiated by Rev. Tim Nilsen. Burial will follow at Old Mission Cemetery.
Visitations will be held from 11:00am – 1:00pm on Monday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Nationwide Children's Hospital, Wyandot County Skilled Nursing & Rehab Center – Activities Fund, or Hospice of Wyandot Memorial and can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.
