Born in Lincoln Co NC Logan Berry was the son of Ezekiel Berry and Mary Hildebrand. Mary married James Clark in Lincoln Co NC by 2 Oct 1817. By 1820 the family relocated to the western part of Haywood Co which became Macon County.

Logan Berry acquired over a thousand acres on Rabbit Creek and Onion Mountain. He was a successful farmer, businessman, and served as county commissioner. Logan Berry married Matilda "Mahiteo" Postell daughter of Margaret Chastain.

During the Civil War Logan Berry, known as the Old Man in camps, served as a messenger and was often mentioned in Macon Co war correspondence. He visited the troops in TN and GA many of whom were related or friends. Sons James M, Logan A, and William H served.
