In recognition of his unselfish sacrifice and service, Bryant was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Citation from the U.S. Department of Defense's Civil Preparedness Agency. U.S. Rep. George Mahon presented the award, on behalf of director John E. Smith, to Bryant's widow, Rita, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Bryant, on April 25, 1973.
