We regret to announce the passing of Dr. J. L. De Leon, 93, on Dec. 24, 2021. Dr. De Leon passed away in the care of Hospice in his sleep at Northwest Community Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Nola, his daughter, Debbie and son-in-law, Andreas of Norway, and son, John. Dr. De Leon was born on Sept. 10th. 1927, in Cuidad Victoria, Mexico. He immigrated to the United States to become a doctor and in search of the American dream. While training in Chicago, he met his Southern Belle and wife to be, Nola Frances Bell. He became an American citizen and out of gratitude he wanted to do something for his "new" country. In 1967, he moved his family to New York. His mission was to work at the veterans hospital helping the wounded soldiers involved in the Vietnam War. After one year of training, he moved his family back to Chicago and earned the title general surgeon. At the age of 43, he was still expanding his horizons and took the next step to a higher degree. He was admitted to The International College of Surgeons and earned his title in 1973. He was licensed to practice medicine in 5 states. At the end of his career, he devoted his time to teaching youthful talents the art and science of surgery. His life was dedicated to helping others and no one was ever turned away because of their inability to pay. His family is very proud of his accomplishments and is everlasting grateful for his humanity, strength, wisdom and support. He was a gift. His final wish was to be cremated. No formal wake or funeral was planned. He is deeply missed and may he rest in peace.
