Arnold was born Mt Pleasant Michigan, lived in Winn for the first two years of his life and later moved to the Lansing area with his parents, Arnold Arden and Marie Josephine (Drake) Allen, to the greater Lansing area where he lived until 1980 when he moved to Eaton Rapids.

He married Barbara Ann (Lockerbie) 16 August 1958, Mount Hope Presbyterian Church Lansing, MI. They have 5 living children Joanna Marie (Ross) Shepard, MI; Tamara Kay (Mason)Perry, MI; Deborah May (Bessinger) Dewitt, MI; MAJ Arnold Arden III USA (ret) Cary, NC, and John Wesley Perry, MI; 10 living grandchildren and 3 nonliving: Grandson (Son of Tamara Kay Mason), Herbert Losey, died at the age of 11 as a result of a car pedestrian accident; Grandson (son of Deborah May Bessinger) David Allen, infant as a result of a SIDS; Granddaughter (Arnold Arden III) Lindsay Helen Allen 1996, infant as a result of a fetal infarction.

Arnold and Barbara divorced in 1979. Barbara never remarried. Arnold remarried Alice Smith in 1980, surviving him; they did not have any children at the time of his death in 1986.

Upon graduation from Lansing Sexton High School Class of 1956, Arnold, who was better known as Arnie, served his country volunteering in the USAF. Upon graduation of Air Police school his first assignment was Tachikawa Air Base, Japan. He earned the rank of A2C and before his End Term in Service in 1960 he worked in the USAF hospital as an Optician/Fitter and Lab Technician.

Upon leaving the service he returned to the Lansing area and found worked at Oldsmobile. When he was laid off, he opened a Gas Service Station in late 1960 with a partner and later sold his share in 1963. At which time he put the skills he learned in the USAF which launched his long career in the optical field.

Arnold had a very long career as optician starting with his first job in the mid 1960's working for Wallace Optical in Lansing, MI as a Lab Technician and later on as an Optician/Fitter. He later worked for Meijer Optical managing stores in Grand Rapids and Okemos, MI. When Meijer closed their Optical stores he worked for Co-Optical in Lansing, MI. Until he was laid off during a down economy 1975 he decided to venture out on his own.
With his partner he co-founded Optical Processing Systems (OPS) out of Lincoln Park, MI. The business was steady and growing providing onsite repairs of optical equipment all across the United States. With only two people running the business it became a strain on his health and marriage and in 1978, Arnold sold his part of the business to his partner and took a job with Soderberg Optometry in Madison, WI where he managed the Optical Processing and Dispensing Lab. He worked for Soderberg for several years in their Detroit and Jackson, MI locations until 1985, when he was no longer able to work due to health reasons.

In early 1986, he started working for the State of Michigan, Dept of Treasury part time processing tax paperwork until his death in May of that same year.

Arnold was an avid sportsman and loved to fish and hunt, he enjoyed hunting on the family farm in Winn, MI. It was the one place where he could spend quality time reconnecting with nature, his father, his children, and friends.

Arnold now rests in Union Cemetery next his wife of 21 years Barbara Ann (Lockerbie) Allen, grandparents Benjamin (Bert) and Elma (Courser) Allen, and his grandson Herbert Losey. Arnold's parents Arnold Arden Sr and Marie Josephine (Drake) Allen are both resting in North Star Cemetery, North Star MI.
