John Dufield, son of Robert and Isabel Duffield, died in 1851, at his log home in McHenry county, Illinois. He had lived in McHenry for almost fifteen years. He was eighty-two years old. His wife, Elizabeth Frame Duffield, preceded him in death on June 19, 1848. They are buried in the Dufield cemetery in that county. The Dufield cemetery is located on Davis Road in McHenry county, Dorr Township, Illinois. The cemetery was established on a piece of the original Dufield homestead. This appears to be a true family burial ground. Note: The spelling of Duffield to Dufield seems to have happened as the family became recorded in McHenry County. It is speculated that one f was dropped on a legal document such as the land records, and never changed for those Dufields that stayed in McHenry County. The Duffields that moved, such as Nathan G. who moved on to settle in Iowa, and David who moved to Warren County, IL, reverted back to the ff spelling.
