E. Dell Collings, 83, Spring Valley, died Wednesday afternoon at St. Margaret's hospital, after four day hospitalization. He had been ill seven months.
Services were conducted Saturday afternoon at the united Church of Christ, by the Rev. Robert Knapp. Interment was in Oakwood cemetery, Wilmington.
Mr. Collings was born June 16, 1892, in Spring Valley to James S. and Margaret Woodend Collings. He married Esther Graham in 1924.
A United States Army veteran of World War I, having served in France, Mr. Collings worked for 40 years as a teacher and counselor in the Cleveland, Ohio, public schools, retiring in 1959.
He was a member of the Spring Valley American Legion, Veterans of World War I barracks, Peru, a 61 year member of the Spring Valley Masonic lodge, the Scottish Rite consistory, Peoria, the Mohammed Temple, the Bureau County Shrine club of Princeton, the National Retired Teachers association, and the Ohio Retired Teachers association
He was preceded in death by his wife, in 1929; a sister, Barbara, 1974; a brother, Ira; two half sisters; a half brother; and an aunt, Miss Mary Jane Woodend, who reared him.
Survivors include a brother, Ralph, San Bruno, Calif., and nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be directed to the United Church of Christ, Spring Valley.
