WESTBROOK -- Robert E. Secord, 81, of Riverview Terrace, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at the Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough.
He was born in Westbrook, the son of Clyde and Isa Mae (Wyman) Secord. Robert was raised, educated, and lived most of his life in Westbrook. He worked for Saunders Brothers and at the S.D. Warren Paper Co. for 47 years. He also served in the Army Engineers during the Korean War.
In his youth he spent many years at Sebago State Park tenting with family and friends. He and his brother volunteered to help fight the big fire in Maine in the 1940s. He married Rebecca Baril and they made their home in Westbrook. After her passing he took many trips to Israel, a place close to his heart. He brought his father on one trip and brother on another trip there.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife Rebecca; brothers, Clyde Jr. and Richard; and his step mother Barbra. He is survived by his sisters, Bertha Drew and Barbara Spaulding, both of Westbrook; step sister Janice Beattie of Windham, step brothers, James Quimby of Windham and Stephen Quimby of Hollis; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 20, at 2 p.m., at Woodlawn Cemetery in Westbrook. On line condolences may be expressed at balaisandhayfuneralhome.com.
