Alta was born May 6, 1919, to Charles D. and Bertha F. (Phillips) Nading, in rural Oswego. She grew up in rural Oswego attending school there. On November 18, 1938, she married Ellis Wells in Columbus, Kansas. They made their home in rural Oswego before moving to Altamont where they raised two daughters.
Alta attended the Altamont United Methodist Church, a member of the Altamont Home Economics Club for 50 years, and held the offices of Reporter, Treasurer and Vice-President of the Altamont Improvement Association. Alta collected depression dishes, loved to shop for antiques and at thrift stores, enjoyed bird watching, reading, and spending time with her family, especially traveling on family vacations.
Alta is survived by her daughters, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren, and seven step-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers, Walter, Harley and Lewis, and two sisters, Florence Rhodes and Lucy Good, one grandson, Jeff Elder, and a son-in-law, Jerry Elder.
A graveside service will be held at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont on Tuesday, August 15, at 10:30 a.m. A visitation will be held prior to the graveside in the Fellowship Hall of the Altamont United Methodist Church at 9:30 a.m.
