Larry Eugene Powell, age 85, of Bedford, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Bedford Springs Health and Rehab Center in Bedford. Born May 18, 1938 in Trimble County, Kentucky, he was the son of Roy and Rachel (Newby) Powell.
Mr. Powell was a graduate of Trimble County High School and retired in 1998 as a control room engineer for the Indiana-Kentucky Electric Corporation in Madison, Indiana. He also was a roofing contractor.
He was a current member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church, and a former member of Sligo Baptist Church. He enjoyed being with his grandchildren, working on and repairing lawnmowers, fishing – especially in Florida - four-wheeling, gambling, riding motorcycles and traveling on bus trips with Toby Tours.
Survivors include his wife, the former Mary Ann Leach, to whom he was married on April 25, 1980; one son: Chris Powell and his wife, Jennifer, of Bedford; one step-son: Mark Brewer and his wife, Renee of Austin, Indiana; two step-daughters: Angela Ransdell and her husband, Doug of Milton, Kentucky, and Tila Leet and her husband, Allen, of Louisville, Kentucky; one brother, Dallas Powell of Osgood, Indiana; one aunt, Martha Hawkins of Plainfield, Indiana; one grandchild; eight step-grandchildren; one great grandchild; eight step-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons: Steve and Rodney Powell; two brothers: Nickie and Mark Powell; and one sister, Delores Powell.
The Reverend Zeb Son will conduct the funeral services.
