DALLAS — A loving wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and loyal friend to many, Sally Kay Davis was welcomed into heaven on August 3, 2023. She passed peacefully in her home with her husband, Dick Davis, by her side.
Sally was born November 11, 1934 to Mary Louise Head Kay and Luther Francis Kay, Jr. of Tyler, Texas. She graduated salutatorian from Tyler High School in May of 1952, where she was also a cheerleader. Growing up, she enjoyed each summer at Camp Waldemar. In 1953, she was selected as the Tyler Rose Festival Queen. Sally attended Southern Methodist University, where she made lifelong friends, was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, graduated with honors and met the love of her life. Sally and Dick Davis were married on November 24, 1956 at Marvin Methodist Church in Tyler, Texas.
Sally's faith was evident in her daily life. She was a loyal member of Park Cities Baptist Church for over 67 years, one of her most treasured affiliations. She had a passion for teaching the bible. For over 40 years, she taught third graders, international students and her peers. She also served as president of the Women's Missionary Union and was a devoted member to her prayer group for nearly 20 years.
She found great joy in creating memories around the dinner table. She hosted birthdays at home, holidays at Fin and Feather Club of Dallas and long weekends at Horseshoe Bay. Sally loved anything that brought her ever-growing family together, always including their golden retrievers. Friends and family were greeted by Sally's sweet smile and gentle spirit. She affectionately referred to loved ones as "precious" and "darling".
She will be deeply missed by her three children: Dick Davis, Jr. (Rita), Davey Davis (Laura), and Cynthia Collins (Bruce). Sally is also survived by her brother, Francis Kay (Tana) and brother-in-law, Jack Davis (Frann).
Known as "Granmommy" to her 10 grandchildren: Caroline, Walt (Amy), Ross (Jackie), Michele (Nelson), Jack (Lizzie), Cliff (Emily), Pete and (fiancé Sarah), Davis, Ben and Andrew. Adored by her 9 great grandchildren: Perry, Ward, Louisa, Walter, Annie, Jack, Michelle, Maddie and Edward.
A celebration service will be held at Park Cities Baptist Church, Ellis Chapel, at 2:00pm, Wednesday, August 9th. Reception to follow in Ellis Parlor.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to charities Sally supported for many years: Union Gospel Mission (https://ugmdallas.org/donate/) and The Kamukama Foundation (https://kamukamafoundation.org/donate/).
