Joani Gay Pauls, 69, passed away on July 11, 2023 at Cascadia of Nampa following a long illness.

She was born on February 5, 1954, to Gayland and Patricia Pauls of Gooding, the first of three children.

Joani was raised and educated in Gooding, spending summers in Fairfield. She graduated from Gooding High School in 1972. She enrolled at Albertson College of Idaho in Caldwell, graduating with a degree in education. The next chapter of her life started her teaching career for the Elko School District, first in Jackpot, then transferring to Elko High School where she taught World Geography until ill health forced her to take an early retirement. After her retirement, she relocated back to Gooding.

During her retirement, she enjoyed the activities of the Eastern Star, Gooding Historical Society, Gooding County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Magic Valley Iris Society and a member of the Red Hat Society "Red Hot Mamas."

Joani was preceded in death by her parents – Gayland and Patricia "Patti" Pauls; and a brother – Clarence Gayland "Skip" Pauls.

Joani is survived by: her sister – Penny Lee Pauls of Gooding; sister-in-law – LoRee Pauls of Davenport, Washington; niece – Jennifer (Tim) Pauls Barlos of Spokane Valley. Washington and their children – Calliope and Cyrus; nephew – Christopher (Kellie) Pauls of Spokane, Washington and their children – Cutter and Beckett; and nephew – Clark (Kristy) Pauls of Spokane, Washington and their son Crash; and extended family members.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at 10:30 am at the Elmwood Cemetery in Gooding.

Cremation arrangements are under the care and direction of Demaray Funeral Service – Gooding Chapel.
