He married Janet Funk May 18, 1964 at Fairbury, NE.
Tom was raised at Falls City and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1959. In 1963 he graduated from Peru State College with a double major in English and Journalism, he went on to earn a Masters Degree from Kearney State College. He began his teaching career in Mead, NE, teaching for a year and half. In 1965 he became employed at Falls City High School. He taught English, Speech, Journalism and AP courses. He taught night courses for Peru State College as well. During the summers he painted houses with John Svoboda and retired from teaching in 2007. He was an avid gardener and loved hunting and fishing. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
Tom is survived by his wife, Janet of Falls City, children, Kathy Dunbar of Lincoln, NE, Dave and his wife Sherry of Falls City, brothers, Phil of Falls City, Bob and his wife Roxi of Falls City, sister, Mary Donohue and her husband Terry of Omaha, grandchildren, Sam Dunbar and his fiancé Gabby Kuhl, Molly (Nick) Kohler, Emma Dunbar and her fiancé Mitch Krueger, Rachel (Nathan) Murdoch, Nick and Thomas Aitken, great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Eliza and Erison Murdoch. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Joe.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Jim Meysenburg officiating. Interment was in Falls City Catholic Cemetery.
A Parish Rosary was recited on Friday at 7:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home. The family received friends following the rosary.
