A retired Catholic priest, the Rev. John V. Hoffman, 79, died Sunday at Morys Haven, Columbus.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. today (Thursday) from St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Bishop Glennon P. Flavin officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Lincoln.
Father Hoffman studied philosophy and theology at St. Mary's Seminary in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was ordained a priest on Dec. 12, 1912. He served the following Nebraska churches: St. Peter (Bellwood), St. Francis de Sales (Lincoln), St. Germanus (Arapahoe), St. Ann (Shubert), St, Mary Osceola, and St. Joseph (Harvard).
In August 1965 he retired to David City, where his brother Michael and his sister, Mrs. Eva Morris, reside. Other survivors are two brothers, William of Stuart and Fred of Steinauer, and one sister, Sister Genevieve, Ursuline Order, Arcadia, Missouri. [Banner-Press from David City, Nebraska, June 20, 1968]
NOTE: Father Jack was in residence at the Ascension of Our Lord parish in Evanston, Illinois, from about 1961 to 1965. The 1940 U.S. Census lists him at Old St. Stephen's Church at 923 W. Ohio St. in Chicago and he is listed at the same church in his 1942 draft registration.
